Generations

Sorry, I haven’t updated this here Cowboy Blog lately. My daughter, Megan, made me a granddad this past week and I have been a little out of commission.

Marcus Allen Koetkemeyer was born Thursday, November 17, 2004, at 7:00 p.m. Of course, he is a beautiful baby and everyone makes over him. As a father of five children I had my own proud feelings about each and every one, but I guess a person never really knows exactly what everyone else if feeling.

So now, here I am a grandfather for the very first time and I must say the warmth in my heart is something very special that must have been reserved for the next generation.

Holding him in my arms was all so familiar. But, when Marcus opened his eyes I saw a world that I don’t believe I had ever seen before. Not that all my children didn’t have wondrous eyes. Our world was always filled with curiosity and pleasure.

Only moments after his birth Marcus was examining the world around him. What could be going on in side that head? The miracle of birth continues each second of every day. Generations build upon the foundations laid before them. If this is not why we live what greater thing can there be?

When each of my children were born, just as in the story of “Roots”, I held my child overhead to the starlit universe and declared, “Behold, the ONLY thing greater than yourself!” We are all miracles before the universe. Let us hope the world to come recognizes that for Marcus and all of his generation.
So Long,
The Cowboy
