Kassi & The Cowboy spent the past weekend at Old Cowtown Museum in Wichita havin’ more fun than should be legal with all our reenacting friends. The streets of Old Cowtown were a perfect setting for all kinds of folks to “get into character”. Lessee… There was Wild Bill, Buffalo Bill, A couple of Doc Hollidays and a couple of Big Nose Kates as companions. Wildhorse Harry turned the town upside down and then a feller by the name of Booger turned it over again! At the Cowboy Ball things got so wild you’d a thought it really was an 1870’s dance hall. I’m afraid we might have actually frightened the museum director with thoughts of the next day’s headlines running through her head. I do believe she jest closed her eyes and headed fer the door as this was the Cowtown great grandpappy used ta talk about. Yahoo!!
AFOWR (American Federation of Old West Reenactors) does a wonderful job of bringing the past alive for all to see. Their historical representations focus on actual history and are designed to teach about the past. Their gunfights are cast in authentic scenarios and safety is ALWAYS of utmost concern not only for the spectators but for the participants who strive open a window on the past for their spectators.
AFOWR sponsored events can be experienced at various locations around the country. Additional information can be gleaned from
We are planning on a spectacular AFOWR production at the C.O.W.B.O.Y.S. Fall Roundup, October 8-10. Check out the C.O.W.B.O.Y. Gatherings link at the side of the page. To all you reenactors out there that made it to Wichita, THANKS! Fer a great weekend!
So Long,
The Cowboy
