The Great Wyatt Earp Controversy

The January/ February issue of Kansas Cowboy carried the story, “Wyatt Earp Was Never Here!” It covers perhaps the most important aspect of the story of Wyatt Earp because according to his biographer Ellsworth is the place where Wyatt Earp got his first law job. The whole thing makes for exciting reading, but from everything that we can find the book Frontier Marshal by Stuart Lake is nothing more than historical fiction.

Researcher Tom Gaumer was in Ellsworth last summer seeking out the details of the story. His interest sparked my research that resulted in the Never Here story. He recently asked my permission to post the story on an internet discussion forum, B.J.’s Tombstone Discussion Forum. Now the fur is flying! If you are interested in the gunfight you may have to scroll down the page a ways. Tom posted the article Friday, April 8. You can find the page at http://disc.server.com
Keep yer head low. Leads a flyin’!
